It’s sunscreen, and splashing, and goose bumpy swims,
And watching little ones growing before eyes.
It’s breezes, and ice cream, and sticky chubby cheeks,
And nuzzles that leave behind a trail.
It’s ear-splitting shrieks and side-stiching laughter,
And skinned knees that kisses still fix.
It’s slick sprinkler bodies marching through green,
On a search for a net’s buggy treasure.
It’s a precious brown head bowed close to a blonde,
Deep in secrets only sisters understand.
It’s lawn chairs, and water fights, and wet Labradors,
And twilight smell of freshly cut grass.
It’s tiny unborn feet beating little baby rhythms,
On the dark side of tight belly skin.
It’s eleven years of love catching my eye,
A sweet wink across giggles and grins.
It’s sleeping cherub cheeks and deep dreamy breaths,
And snuggles with dolls and sea-horses.
It’s salty tear tracks on thankful mama cheeks,
And blessings from God spilling over.
It’s just not so hard to count it all joy,
Especially on a sweet summer night.
