18 months in videos

Little Miss Lily pants turned 18 months on Feb. 1st. This is impossible, despite what the calendar says, because there is no way that much time has passed since she was born!

Lily continues to be our Sunshine girl. Except when sick or teething, she is nearly always in a spectacularly good mood. Somewhere in the "Guidebook for driving your parents crazy at 18 months" she read that she must throw an occasional fit. She thankfully does not do it often, but when it does happen it is a sight to behold. The record so far is 35 minutes of screaming, wailing, crying, and "Mamas" because she was told that it was not an appropriate time to watch a Baby Einstein video.

She still loves to climb anything and everything, always. The worst part of this behavior is that she has no fear of heights, drop-offs, etc. and will also leap from whatever she has climbed. The current heartstopper is that she will stretch to get to the first monkey bar on our swingset and swing off into nothingness, hang there, and drop. Good luck Guardian Angel!

At her checkup, Lily weighed in at 24.5 lbs (average), and was completely off ABOVE the top of the height chart. Her doctor thinks she will be about 5'9" when full-grown. She is tall because she eats. and eats. and eats. and eats. Currently she is eating at least four "breakfasts" before lunch and is frequently found standing in front of the fridge and/or pantry perusing her options. And yet, she has weighed the same for weeks and weeks, thus my height theory. Favorite foods: scrambled eggs, avacados, bananas, cheese (sharp cheddar no less), meat, oatmeal, blueberries, and tons of milk (like about 25-30 oz. on a normal day).

Other items he found significant was her doodling fairly intricate shapes and her level of vocabulary and syntax at this stage. She is up to over 150 words at best estimate and consistently links up to five into sentences! This is no surprise to Lee and I, because she wants desperately to keep up with big sister. Longest sentence on record, on way to that appointment in car: "Mama, Sissy saw a cow!" Funniest sentence on record: "Oh man, that's stinky diaper!" (said with a crinkly smells-bad face and in reference to the diaper she was "changing" on her doll). Lily also, only yesterday started counting, and can go with occasional help up to 11!

Favorite activities: watching Elmo, playing with her baby dolls, carrying her stuffed Elmo everywhere, pushing anything around (doll stroller, clothes basket, play shopping cart, etc.), READING - especially books where she can identify objects by name, singing (Elmo's song, Jesus Loves Me, ABC song, "All Night, All Day" lullaby), talking on her play cell phone ("Hello! Lily. Pop? Grandpa? Sissy? Bye, Bye!", playing outside, climbing, telling her sister she is mean, seeing how many times she can say "Mama" in a given time period before I go nuts, making motorboat sounds as she is running around, wrestling with her sister and Daddy, crawling around and "roaring" with her lion voice, and DANCING.

And I mean dancing. The girl can get down. It is hilarious, and she is remarkably good at changing her "routine" to fit the mood and tempo of the music. Club type music we get a lot of shaking, slower stuff "interpretive" flowy moves. Minimum of 5 times a day, she will approach me, put her little arms up in the air, shimmy her hips and say "Mama! Dance, dance, dance!" This is my cue to put on boogie tunes.

Lily is going to be my neat freak, I think. Anything out of place is in danger of being deemed "twash" and thrown away. One of her other favorite activities is putting dirty clothes in the hamper, which she will do without even being asked!

My favorite things she does: clasping her hands while praying, gasping in delight, shaking her finger at her sister as Grace is disciplined, asking for a hug when you give her one of her favorite foods.

We love you Lily Mae!
